Iran requests the abolition of sanctions imposed on the Assad regime
Iran’s permanent ambassador to the United Nations, Zahra Arshadi, said: “The illegal sanctions imposed on Syria (the Assad regime) must be abolished,” claiming that her country “reaffirms that the Syrian crisis must be peaceful.”
This came in a statement during the Security Council meeting on the political and humanitarian developments in Syria.
Arshadi added: “The International Council has asked all member states to take practical steps in order to meet the immediate needs of the Syrian people, based on Resolution 2585.”
She stressed that the Assad regime must be supported in order to improve the economic situation, and that the support provided would, in turn, lead to finding successful solutions to the Syrian crisis.
Irshady called for non-interference in the internal or external affairs of countries, the peaceful settlement of international disputes, and respect for the “sovereignty of Syria” and its territorial integrity, ignoring the presence of Iranian militias affiliated with her country in Syria, and their crimes against civilians.
