Daraa’s military escalation ends with a temporary ceasefire agreement
Yesterday, Tuesday, the negotiating parties in Daraa Al-Balad reached an agreement regarding the besieged neighborhoods in the area, stipulating: “a ceasefire under Russian supervision, followed by the lifting of the siege on these neighborhoods, and the non-entry of Assad regime forces into them.”
“The new agreement was reached after a round of talks that lasted for several hours between all the actors in Daraa province,” Abu Mahmoud Hourani, a spokesman for the Ahrar Gathering, told Farsh Online.
Hourani added: “The agreement stipulated a 3-day ceasefire in Daraa al-Balad, starting today, Wednesday, with the entry of forces affiliated with the Russian Military Police, accompanied by the 8th Brigade, to establish a temporary military point south of Daraa al-Balad with the aim of establishing the ceasefire.”
He continued, “The Russian police will accompany the Eighth Brigade, and members of the Daraa al-Balad Committee, to check the identities of some people in Daraa al-Balad.”
Hourani added, “Three military points will be deployed in the vicinity of Daraa al-Balad, and joint forces between the Military Security and the Eighth Brigade will be handed over from the people of Daraa governorate, after which the militias of the Fourth and Foreign Division will be withdrawn from the vicinity of Daraa city, and all the barriers between Daraa al-Balad and the city center will be opened.”
The Assad regime forces had recently begun to implement a complete siege on Daraa al-Balad, after closing the main roads leading to the center of Daraa city, with the threat of storming the area, to force the residents to surrender their personal weapons, which was rejected by the Central Committee.
