Jordan calls on the international community to assume its responsibilities towards countries hosting Syrian refugees
Nasser Shraideh, Minister of Planning and International Cooperation, called on the international community to assume its responsibilities towards the countries hosting Syrian refugees, in light of the remarkable drop in the support presented to the Jordan Response Plan to the Syrian Crisis (JRP) over the past two years.
During a meeting held at the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation, Al-Shraideh called on the international community to provide the necessary funds for the JRP2021, which was prepared and updated through joint efforts among all relevant ministries, institutions, UN agencies, donor countries and non-government organisations.
During a meeting at the ministry, Shraideh reviewed the repercussions on the Kingdom as a result of hosting more than 1.3 million Syrian refugees, which put additional strain on the budget, host communities and public services.
The Jordanian plan aims to cover the needs of refugees and host communities, in addition to enabling the government to continue providing basic services to Syrian refugees, and includes new measures to confront the Corona virus. The total financial needs of the JRP 2021 stands at some $2.4 billion.
It should be noted that the United Nations World Food Program in Jordan announced last month that it had received a grant from Germany, worth 17 million euros ($20 million), to help the program avoid cutting monthly food aid for about 110,000 Syrian refugee families in Jordan.
