Report: Defeating ISIS in Syria is a priority for the United States
Washington issued a report to the Inspector General on Operation Inherent Resolve, which is being carried out by the international coalition against the Islamic State in Syria.
The report mentioned the details of the military operations that Washington is conducting inside Syria, individually or with its local partners, in addition to the operations of the “US Agency for International Development” related to supporting development and stabilization operations in the regions of northeastern Syria, while the report covers the period between June 1 and June 30 September 2021.
The report indicated that Washington continued to prioritize the permanent defeat of ISIS, maintaining the ceasefire, and providing life-saving humanitarian assistance to needy Syrian civilians, with the aim of strengthening the conditions for a political solution in Syria, in accordance with United Nations resolutions and Security Council Resolution 2254.
The report indicated that for the purposes of protecting the operations of the international coalition in the region, the United States has also worked to confront the destabilizing activities of Iran and its proxies and militias.
The US Undersecretary of Defense for Policy and International Security stated that “there were no changes to the policy of the Ministry of Defense operations in Syria during the period covered by the report,” noting that Washington “remains committed to carrying out its only mission in Syria, which is the enduring defeat of ISIS.”
The report notes that “the most important threat facing Syria comes from malicious actors, and it is an ongoing threat, including a group of various militias allied with Iran, which launch attacks using unidirectional drones, and indirect fire attacks on coalition forces.”
The report stated that Operation Inherent Resolve continued to support the Syrian partner forces by providing intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance information, and supporting intelligence integration and joint operations, as well as financial assistance to Syrian groups and individuals that were screened through the “Counter-ISIS Training and Equipment Fund.”
The report indicated that the “International Coalition” forces did not carry out any unilateral operations against ISIS during the period covered by the report. Rather, all operations of the “Joint Task Force” were carried out in “Solid Resolve” in partnership with the Syrian partner parties.
According to the report, the Joint Task Force carried out three air strikes in Syria in July against ISIS targets, without specifying the location or nature of these targets.
