Erdogan and Putin discuss the latest developments in the Syrian file
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin discussed the latest developments in the Syrian file.
This came during a phone call made by the two sides yesterday evening, to discuss the field and political situation in Syria.
The Russian presidency (the Kremlin) issued a statement confirming, “The two sides discussed the security guarantees that Moscow provided to the United States and NATO in exchange for stopping the alliance’s expansion to the east.”
The Kremlin added that the two presidents discussed developments in the Caucasus region, Syria and Libya, and renewed their pledge to intensify the mutually beneficial partnership between Russia and Turkey.
Erdogan’s office said the two sides “discussed measures to improve Turkish-Russian relations” and reiterated their willingness to develop cooperation “in all fields”.
The liberated areas in northwestern Syria are still bombarded almost daily by the Assad regime and Russia’s airstrikes, despite the continuation of the “cease-fire” agreement signed between Russia and Turkey on March 5, 2020.
