Pedersen: The conflict in Ukraine will negatively affect the solution of the Syrian issue

The UN Special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, expressed his concern that the conflict over Ukraine could negatively affect the solution of the Syrian issue.

In a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov with Pedersen, the latter said: “As a special envoy to Syria, I am concerned that this conflict over Ukraine will also have a negative impact on resolving the Syrian conflict, but I hope that this will not happen.”

The Secretary-General of the Syrian National Coalition, Haitham Rahma, condemned Russia’s attack on the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, its support for the secession of the Donetsk and Lugansk regions in eastern Ukraine, and the issuance of orders for the Russian army to enter them.
