Russia announces temporary ceasefire to evacuate civilians from several cities in Ukraine
Today, Monday, the Russian Ministry of Defense announced a “temporary” ceasefire in a number of Ukrainian cities, in order to evacuate civilians inside these cities, as of 10:00 Moscow time.
This came in a statement issued by the Inter-Unit Coordination Center for Humanitarian Intervention in Ukraine of the Russian Ministry of Defense, in which the center said that the humanitarian situation in Kyiv, Mariupol, Kharkiv and Sumy has become very serious.
The statement confirmed that French President Emmanuel Macron had asked Russian President Vladimir Putin to open humanitarian corridors to evacuate civilians stranded in the mentioned cities in Ukraine.
The statement indicated that the humanitarian corridors to be opened will be monitored by drones, indicating that the relevant units of the United Nations, the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe and the International Committee of the Red Cross have been informed.
“We demand that Ukraine fulfill all conditions for the establishment of humanitarian corridors in the specified directions, and for the orderly exit of civilians and foreign citizens,” the statement continued.
On Saturday, Russian forces announced a ceasefire in Mariupol to evacuate civilians from this strategic port in eastern Ukraine on the tenth day of the invasion and in the wake of the shock caused by the bombing of Europe’s largest nuclear power plant located in Zaporizhia.
