The Syrian Network for Human Rights clarifies the number of detainees included in Bashar al-Assad’s latest amnesty decree
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) has counted the number of detainees who have been released in Bashar al-Assad’s latest amnesty decree.
The reporting manager at the (SNHR) Sumaya Hadad said: “we have documented the release of 419 detainees from various military and civil prisons in the Syrian governorates, including 44 women and 8 people who were children at the time of their arrest, according to the seventh decree of 2022.”
Hadad added that the latest decree doesn’t differ so much from the previous decrees. However this decree will include new batches of detainees, their numbers range from 3o to 60 detainees every day.
She added that most of the detainees who have been released belonging to the cities of Damascus, Damascus countryside, Daraa, Aleppo and Deir ez-Zor.
Haddad expected that the releases will continue until the end of next June. large numbers of detainees will not be released, but rather an attempt by the regime to distract society from the recent massacres.
It is noteworthy that Bashar al-Assad had previously issued a legislative decree granting a general amnesty for terrorist crimes committed by Syrians before April 30, 2022, except for those leading to the death of a person.
