Jordan’s King: Russia’s absence will cause problems on our border with Syria
Jordan’s King Abdullah II announced during an interview with Hoover Institution at Stanford University in the United States that the Russian presence in southern Syria was a source of calm, and he pointed out that if the Iranian militias filled the vacuum left by Russia, this could lead to “escalation the problems on our borders.”
Jordan’s King added, “Of course, we want everyone to be part of a new Middle East and to move forward, but we have security challenges,” expressing his concern over the vacuum caused by Russia’s absence.
He confirmed that Coronavirus spread has led to the return of Islamic State whether in Syria, Iraq, or in Africa.
He considered that his visit to Washington is a step towards coordinating with allies and planning tactically and strategically for 2022.
He also stressed the need to deal firmly and strongly to prevent infiltration and smuggling attempts in order to protect Jordanian society and youth.
On January 16, the Jordanian forces repelled an attempt to smuggle drugs across the border with Syria.
