Lavrov will visit Ankara tomorrow to discuss several files, including Syria
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov plans to visit Turkey’s capital, Ankara, tomorrow to discuss several files, including Syria.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed that Lavrov will discuss with his Turkish counterpart, Mevlut Cavusoglu, the upcoming Turkish military operation in Syria.
Peskov told TASS Agency: “It is likely that the minister will discuss this issue during the coming calls.”
Peskov didn’t comment on the information that “Russia and its allies have consolidated their positions around several towns in Syria as Ankara is planning to carry out a military operation.”
The Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov said a few days ago, that “the meeting will address military issues.”
The Russian official talked about “issues to be discussed and clarified, he also pointed to the military operation which Turkey threatens to launch in northern Syria.”
The upcoming visit of the Russian delegation to Ankara comes at a time the Turkish president is confirming to launch a military operation against the Syrian Democratic Forces in northern Syria and establishing a “safe zone” along the border.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said last week that the military operation that his country plans to carry out in Syria aims to control the areas of Tal Rifaat and Manbij in Aleppo countryside.
