SNHR reveals the number of detainees released under the latest “amnesty” decree
The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) documented yesterday the release of 539 detainees from various Assad regime’s prisons under the “amnesty” decree No.7.
The SNHR explained that among the 539 detainees 61 women and 16 people, who had been children at the time of their arrest, were released between May 1, 2022 and June 13, 2022.
The SNHR added among those, who have been released, are 158 individuals who made security settlements before their arrest and had been given a pledge in return that they would not be subjected to harassment by Assad regime’s security branches.
It also included, 28 individuals of refugees and those living abroad were arrested after returning to Syria, including four women.
The SNHR calls on the international community to pressure the Assad regime to release approximately 132,000 individuals still detained in Assad’s prisons, including 87,000 who are classified as forcibly disappeared.
On June 3, the Syrian Network for Human Rights documented 147 cases of arbitrary arrests last May by various parties to the “conflict” in Syria, including 13 children and four women, 121 of whom were forcibly disappeared.
