The United Nations: The number of refugees has reached unprecedented record and the reasons are still exist
The representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees in Turkey, Philippe Leclerc, said the number of refugees and internally displaced people around the world has reached a record in recent years and the main reasons are still exist and have not changed.
Leclerc clarified that the number of refugees has reached a record that is unprecedented in the records of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, as the number of forcibly displaced people worldwide has reached 100 million.
Leclerc considered that this is a negative development because it means that the collective security system of the international community has been unable to prevent wars, conflicts, and persecutions.
He urged the countries and the international public opinion on the need for a safe place for refugees who may be harmed or killed if they do not find a safe place.
Leclerc believed that the first thing the UN high commission asked of the international community and the active countries to work jointly to achieve peace in countries suffering from wars and armed conflicts, that would allow the people to return to their countries.
He pointed out that the social and economic situation of those living in Syria is deteriorating day after day, due to the lack of any political or security improvements and the failure to find a solution to end the conflict in Syria.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees has previously confirmed that there are more than 13 million Syrians have either fled the country or have internally displaced, 5.6 million of them in neighboring countries, and 6.9 million internally displaced people most of them are in Idlib governorate, northwest of the country.
