“Axios” website: Israel asked U.S. to press Turkey to stop the military operation in northeastern Syria
“Axios” an American news website quoted two Israeli officials as saying that Israel had secretly pressed the United States to prevent the Turkish operation in northeastern Syria.
The Israeli national security adviser told his U.S. counterpart that the Turkish operation which Turkey threatens to launch against the Syrian Democratic Forces would harm them and could benefit Iran in the future, according to the two Israeli officials.
“Axios” website confirmed that Israel considers the Syrian Democratic Forces as an ally, and they supported Israel for years against Iran.
The U.S. President warned previously his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, against launching a new operation against the Syrian Democrat Forces in Syria.
On the other hand, the Turkish President stated that Turkey will not stand idly while the “terrorist organizations” threaten its security. He also said that Turkey expects Russia and Iran to support it in fighting them.
It is noteworthy that the Israeli Prime Minister declined to comment on Israel’s demand for the United States to prevent Erdogan from launching the operation against Syria.
