The United States renews its full support for the Syrian Constitutional Committee
The United States affirmed its full and strong support for the Syrian Constitutional Committee and Security Council Resolution 2254, pointing out that the Assad regime and Russia are undermining the efforts of the political process in Syria.
The US embassy in Syria clarified through a tweet on Twitter that the US Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs Ethan Goldrich reiterated Washington’s support for the Constitutional Committee in front of both the co-chair of the Constitutional Committee Hadi al-Bahra and the head of the opposition negotiating body Badr Jamous.
The US embassy pointed out that “the efforts of Russia and the Assad regime to undermine the ninth round of the meetings of the Syrian Constitutional Committee show their indifference to a better future for the Syrians.”
The United States had previously expressed its concern over the cancellation of the meetings of the ninth round of the Syrian Constitutional Committee, stressing that The Assad regime’s suspension of its participation to accommodate Russian preferences is another example of how Russia and the Assad regime prioritize their own interests over the interests of the Syrian people.”
