The US House of Representatives votes on a resolution to counter Assad regime’s Captagon productionThe US House Foreign Affairs Committee met today to discuss and vote on a resolution submitted by the U.S. congressman “French Hill” concerning countering Assad regime’s drug production and smuggling, specifically the Captagon pills. The draft resolution called on the federal government of the United States to develop an interagency strategy to dismantle and disrupt drug’s manufacture and trade and the networks affiliated with the Assad regime.
The next phase is that the entire House of Representatives to vote on the resolution and in case they approve on it, the resolution will be sent to the Senate. So the Senate either approves it with its proposed form, or a parallel resolution is presented and a joint formulation is reached and approved by both Houses, according to what the We Are All Partners website reported.
It is noteworthy that the beginning of the introduction of Captagon factories to northeastern Lebanon was in 2011, which is the year the outbreak of the Syrian revolution and the insecurity on the Lebanese-Syrian borders, where the production of Captagon pills was active in places outside the control of the state and inside the territories near the Lebanese-Syrian borders.
