Tripartite ministerial meeting of the guarantor states to discuss the Syrian file in New York

The foreign ministers of the “guarantor states” of the Astana process held a tripartite meeting between the Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu, his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov, and the Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian.

The ministerial meeting was held at the “Turkish House” in New York to discuss several common files between the three states, including ways of joint cooperation and finding a political solution in Syria.

The Turkish Minister Cavusoglu tweeted that “we are continuing diplomatic efforts in order to find a durable political solution in Syria.”

Cavusoglu added that the UN Special Envoy for Syria Geir Pedersen also attended the meeting.

The “Astana” process is considered the longest political process related to the Syrian issue so far, as its first round was launched after the Assad regime took control of the eastern areas of Aleppo city in 2017. There were 17 rounds, without reaching a political solution that meets the aspirations of the Syrian people.
