Pedersen: Attacks against Syrians must cease and there must be a focus on political solutions
The UN Special Envoy for Syria, Geir Pedersen, tweeted on Tuesday that attacks against civilians must cease and there must be a ceasefire in Syria, stressing the need to focus on the political solutions.
Pedersen expressed in his tweet the extreme concern over the strikes on displaced camps in north-west Syria which killed 9 civilians and injured dozens.
Pedersen added that it is necessary to adhere to international humanitarian law, including countering terrorism.
The UN Deputy Special Envoy to Syria, Najat Rochdi, affirmed that civilians are not a target, and hostilities in Syria kill civilians again, pointing out that it is “another devastating tragedy for many must stop,” calling on all parties to protect civilians wherever they are in Syria.
It is noteworthy that Assad regime forces targeted last Sunday with cluster bombs the “Maram” camp for the displaced people in western Idleb, killing and injuring dozens of civilians, including children and women.
