Jeffrey: There are several factors to weaken Assad regime and its supporters in Syria
The Former US Special Envoy to Syria, James Jeffrey, affirmed that there are several factors to weaken Assad regime and its allies in Syria.
Jeffrey stated on Monday that the continued existence of Israeli aircrafts in Syria’s airspace to work against Iran and the existence of Turkish forces prevent Assad regime, Russia, and from achieving their goals like strategic victory.
He stressed that the withdrawal of US troops from Syria would strengthen Assad regime and its allies and would destabilize the region.
Jeffrey pointed out that the United States does not have an agenda outside the scope of UN Security Council Resolution 2254.
The United Nations Security Council Resolution No. 2254 was unanimously adopted on December 18, 2015, which called for a cease-fire and a political settlement of the situation in Syria.
The resolution calls on all parties to immediately stop any attacks against civilian targets, and urges all Member States to support efforts to achieve a ceasefire.
It is noteworthy that the international community, America, Europe and the United Nations have not taken any effective measures to deter the Assad regime and its supporters, and to prevent them from committing massacres and using internationally prohibited weapons against the Syrian people.
