Meeting of Arab foreign ministers kicks off in Amman aiming to resolve the Syrian crisis
A meeting of the foreign ministers of Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, and Assad regime kicked off on Monday aiming to build Arab contacts with the Assad regime and reach a political solution to the Syrian crisis.
The Jordanian foreign ministry spokesman Sinan Majali said: This meeting will be held as continuation of the consultive meeting of the Cooperation Council for the Arab Gulf States, Jordan, Iraq and Egypt, that was held in Jeddah at mid-April.
The Arab ministers who participated in Jeddah meeting agreed on the importance of an Arab leadership role for the efforts in order to end the Syrian crisis. Amman meeting comes before the Arab summit on May 15, 2023.
It is noteworthy that prior to the consultative meeting that was supposed to be held in Amman, the Jordanian foreign minister held a bilateral meeting with the foreign minister of the Assad regime, in which they discussed many issues such as border security and combating drug smuggling.
