Bahraini foreign minister meets Bashar al-Assad in Damascus for the first time since 2011
Media sources reported that Bahraini foreign minister, Abdullatif bin Rashid Al Zayani, arrived in Damascus and met with Bashar al-Assad in the context of the ongoing Arab normalization with its regime, despite all the continuing crimes in Syria.
The sources said: “The two sides discussed during the meeting the bilateral relations between the two countries and the avenues to improve them in various fields to serve the interests of the two countries and brotherly peoples, in addition to the preparations and efforts made by the Kingdom of Bahrain to make the Arab summit scheduled for the upcoming month a success.
The sources added: “The two sides reviewed the most important issues on the Arab summit’s agenda in a way that serves the joint Arab interests and unifies the efforts to confront the current challenges.”
Bashar al-Assad received in late March an official invitation from the King of Bahrain, Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, to participate in the upcoming Arab summit.
It is noteworthy that this is the first visit by the Bahraini Foreign Minister to Syria since the Arab countries severed ties with the Assad regime in 2011.
