Syria Recovery Trust Fund announces health and agricultural projects in northern Syria

Syria Recovery Trust Fund (SRTF) announced new projects in northern Syria, bringing the total number of SRTF’s projects to 71 with a budget of € 269.07 million.

SRTF’s director, Hani Khabbaz, said: “These projects are new health projects in northeastern Syria and a new agricultural project in northern Aleppo.”

Khabbaz added: ” SRTF’s commitment to provide the health services, support agriculture and food security, and enhance climate-smart agricultural practices remains steadfast.

Khabbaz pointed out that “the health intervention in northeastern Syria was due to the success of the phase I and II of the health intervention.”

Khabbaz indicated that “9,186 dialysis sessions to 123 end-stage renal diseases patients were carried out during the phase I and II, including 40% women and 7% internally displaced persons (IDPs), indirectly benefitting 605 household members.”

Khabbaz made it clear that “the newly approved phase III will fill the gaps and ensure supporting the two dialysis units completely to provide high-quality health services through providing medical staff, operational costs, medications, consumables, and dialysis kits.”

Khabbaz explained that “the budget of new health intervention amounted to about € 0.55 million. It is expected that this intervention will provide 6240 dialysis sessions during the 10-month project duration.”

Khabbaz emphasized that “SRTF approved supporting farmers to product wheat crop in northern Aleppo to increase wheat production and improve livelihoods and food security in the region by providing various agricultural inputs and wheat seeds, with a focus on Climate smart agriculture practices.”

It is noteworthy that Syria Recovery Trust Fund was established in September 2013, with the participation of the United States, Germany, and the United Arab Emirates, with the representation of the National Coalition of Syrian Revolution and Opposition Forces, and two years later several European and Arab countries joined it.
