QRCS intends to conduct a comprehensive assessment of the needs in north-west Syria

Qatar Red Crescent Society (QRCS) confirmed that it will conduct a multi-sectoral assessment of needs in the regions of north-west Syria.

QRCS said in a statement that “it will conduct the assessment in preparation for developing more effective projects and interventions with the aim of improving the living conditions of local communities in 146 villages in Idleb and Aleppo provinces.”

The assessment “aims to form a comprehensive and updated picture in Syria’s various regions of the most important humanitarian and development needs at the regional level during 2024-2025, according to the statement.”

The statement pointed out that 2024 program for these needs, which has been doing for 7 years, includes surveying and assessing 146 local communities in the villages of northern Syria, including 88 villages in Idleb and its countryside and 58 villages in Aleppo countryside.

The regions with a population of more than 5,000 people were selected based on census table issued by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) for 2023, which was issued at the beginning of 2024, according to the statement.

The statement pointed out that multi-sectoral needs assessment is considered an essential part of QRCS’s ongoing efforts to provide humanitarian and development needs for the vulnerable communities affected by the humanitarian crises across the world by adopting the assistance provided according to the real needs of different communities and the requirements of their living conditions.”

QRCS has been working for years to implement relief, development, health and educational projects in various regions of northern Syria, including building residential villages for displaced Syrians, in addition to relief and health projects for Syrian refugees in Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey.

QRCS opened last May a new residential village to shelter displaced people in the eastern countryside of Aleppo, as part of the shelter projects implemented by the organization in the northwestern region of Syria since 2015.

QRCS has built so far 14 integrated residential villages in northern Syria containing 3,672 apartments, including 2,572 built of reinforced concrete, and 1,100 mud houses.
