Marking the 11th anniversary of the chemical attack in Ghouta.. “SNHR” calls on the UN to impose sanctions on the Assad regime

The Syrian Network for Human Rights (SNHR) called on the Security Council and the United Nations to impose economic, political and military sanctions on the Assad regime.

SNHR published a report marking the 11th anniversary of the Assad regime’s chemical weapons attack on the two Ghoutas of Damascus.

The report said: “These sanctions represent a form of moral compensation for the families of the victims, in accordance with Chapter Seven of the United Nations Charter.”

The report added: “It is necessary to pursue the individuals whose names and data were published, investigate the extent of their involvement in the use of chemical weapons, and place them on sanctions and terrorism lists.”

The report urged “the necessity for referring the Syrian file to the International Criminal Court and holding all those involved in chemical war crimes accountable.”

Based on the Assad regime’s violation of the Chemical Weapons Convention, the SNHR called for bringing the case before the International Court of Justice, similar to the lawsuit filed by the Kingdom of the Netherlands and Canada before the International Court of Justice under the Convention against Torture.

Today, August 21, marks the 11th anniversary of the Assad regime’s chemical weapons attack on the Eastern and Western Ghoutas in the Damascus Countryside on August 21, 2013.

Many families, especially children, are still suffering from the effects of the attack, and their suffering is compounded by the fact that all these years have passed without any accountability for the Assad regime and its agents.
