The Arab League Council condemned on Tuesday the Israel’s action of digging an earthen trench along the ceasefire line in southern Syria.
This condemnation came in a statement published by the Council, following its meeting at the level of permanent delegates to its session in Cairo, confirming that Israel’s actions violate Security Council resolutions and the 1974 Disengagement Agreement.
The statement called on the Security Council to assume its responsibility by putting an end to all practices “aimed at perpetuating the Israeli occupation of the occupied Syrian territories and annexing more of them.”
The statement added that the international community must assume its legal and moral responsibilities regarding the escalation and work to curb the Israel’s aggressive policies in a manner consistent with international law.”
The statement considered that the Israeli attacks are a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, and are considered war crimes that require international accountability.
According to the statement, the Israeli escalation in and around the region threatens the outbreak of a wide regional war that threatens security and stability.
According to the data, it appears that Israel has begun a construction project to build a road directly along the border, and the United Nations confirmed to the AP News that Israeli forces entered the demilitarized zone during the work.
Local media sources in southern Syria revealed that a new incursion was recorded, the third during last October, by the Israeli occupation forces from the direction of the town of Al-Hurriya, west of Quneitra, on the border with the occupied Golan.
