Trump: Turkey possesses the key to Syria’s future
US President-elect Donald Trump said that Turkey holds the key to the future in Syria after the military operations department toppled Assad regime.
Trump confirmed in a press conference that “at present, there are a lot of unidentified matters in Syria… I think Turkey will hold the key to Syria… you might not have heard this from anybody, but it is like this.”
Trump pointed out that “Turkey’s support for the Syrian opposition leads to unfriendly takeover in Syria without losing a lot of lives.”
Trump responded vaguely on a question about the fate of the US troops in Syria as he focused on the power of the Turkish army and his strong relation with the Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
Trump said: “Erdogan is somebody I got along with great, and he has a large military force which has not been depleted by the wars. He builds a powerful and strong army.”
In another context, Trump emphasized that “the head of the ousted regime, Bashar al-Assad, was a butcher, and what he did to the children was brutal, and he bombed targets in Syria during his term and crossed the red lines.”
