The Turkish Red Crescent signs an agreement with its Syrian counterpart and opens an office in Damascus
The Turkish Red Crescent signed on Saturday a cooperation agreement with its Syrian counterpart to enhance and coordinate the partnership between the two sides to help the most vulnerable families and alleviate their suffering.
Following signing the agreement, The Turkish Red Crescent opened its office in the Syrian capital, Damascus, with the presence of officials from both countries.
The signing of the agreement was attended by the Director General of International Affairs and Migration at the Turkish Red Crescent, Alper Kucuk, the Director General of the Government Office, Mustafa Tutkun, and the Director General of the Communications and Donations Department, Murat Solak.
The Syrian Red Crescent President, Hazem Baqla, emphasized in statements the importance of uniting the humanitarian efforts to build the affected communities and help the families who are in dire need.
Baqla concluded by thanking the Turkish Red Crescent for its efforts in providing the support for the humanitarian work across all Syria.
The Turkish Red Crescent President, Fatma Yilmaz, said that the cooperation between the national societies largely enhance its strength in the humanitarian work field.
Yilmaz added that inaugurating an office for the Turkish Red Crescent in Damascus aims to identify the necessary needs and coordinate services in the region.
After signing the agreement, Turkish officials visited a point for distributing humanitarian aid provided by the Turkish Red Crescent in the Barzeh area of Damascus.
Following Assad regime’s fall, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced on December 13, 2024, that his country’s embassy in the Syrian capital, Damascus, will resume its work from the day following the statement.
Turkey reopened its embassy in Damascus for the first time since March 26, 2012, due to the deposed regime’s violations, its use of excessive violence against Syrians, and its refusal to engage in political solutions.
