Qatar confirms its support for Syria and condemns Israeli intervention

Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani announced the resumption of Qatari-Syrian relations after a 13-year hiatus.

His announcement came during a press conference following an official visit conducted by a Qatari delegation headed by the Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Rahman Al Thani, in which he met with the new Syrian leadership, headed by Ahmed Al-Sharaa.

Al Thani said in his statements: “We welcome the positive steps taken by the new Syrian administration. We are on the verge of a new phase in Syria’s history, and Qatar extends its hand to the Syrian people for partnership.”

Al Thani stressed the need to provide the necessary needs to continue providing public services to the Syrians, noting that Qatar will work to provide the necessary technical support to rehabilitate the damaged infrastructure.

Al Thani promised that his country will supply Syria with 200 megawatts of electricity.

Al Thani expressed his country’s aspiration for a constructive future partnership between the two countries, stressing that the situation in Syria requires urgent consideration of lifting the sanctions imposed on the country.

Al Thani indicated that His Highness Prince Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani will visit Syria in the near future, indicating a new phase of rapprochement between the two countries.

Al Thani also described the current stage as a “stage of construction and development,” stressing that the coming period will witness a lot of momentum in joint Qatari-Syrian projects.

On the other hand, Al Thani condemned the Israeli entity’s seizure of the buffer zone in Syria, demanding immediate withdrawal.

The leader of the new Syrian administration, Ahmed Al-Sharaa, stated that talks took place with the Qatari Prime Minister, covering all fields. Al-Sharaa stressed that Qatar is one of the countries that contributed to helping the Syrian people during their ordeal.
