Saudi Foreign Minister: Solving the Syrian crisis with a political settlement and writing a new constitution
Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan stated that the solution to the Syrian crisis is through a political settlement with a correct path, based on writing a new constitution, with the support of the United Nations.
Prince Faisal bin Farhan said during an interview on Al Arabiya: “If a settlement is reached in this way, the future of Syria will be preserved, and then we can look to the future.”
The Saudi foreign minister added, “If such a settlement is reached, the future of Syria will be preserved, and we will be able to start looking to the future.”
The Foreign Minister denied the existence of contacts between the Kingdom and the head of the “Syrian regime”.
King Salman, during his presidency of the cabinet session last Wednesday, confirmed that Riyadh is working to achieve stability and security in the region through political solutions in Syria and Yemen between the conflicting parties.
The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia severed its political relationship with the Assad regime and withdrew its ambassador, at the beginning of the Syrian revolution in 2011, due to the Assad regime’s continuing repressive policy against the Syrian people.
