Nasr al-Hariri warns of the failure to reach an international consensus concerning the Syrian file
The head of the National Coalition, Dr. Nasr Al-Hariri, warned today, Wednesday, of several issues regarding the Syrian file, foremost of which is international disagreement on Syria, and the Assad regime’s delegation’s obstruction of the recent work of the Constitutional Committee.
This came during a virtual meeting, held by the representative of the Syrian National Coalition, with the Communities Office in the United States.
Regarding the recent work of the Constitutional Committee, Hariri stressed that it is the first time that the agenda includes the constitutional contents, indicating, “We must not be overly optimistic until an international consensus is reached on the Syrian file,” he said.
He added that agreement on the agenda would not be sufficient to oblige the Assad regime to seriously engage in the constitutional process.
Hariri noted, “The constitutional process is part of the solution, but it is not sufficient unless the work of the rest of the tracks included in the Geneva Communiqué and Resolution 2254 is activated, especially the path of the transitional governing body, which is the core of the political process.”
On the American administration, the attendees agreed on the need to communicate with it and present clear projects in line with the aspirations of the Syrian people.
The head of the National Coalition, Dr. Nasr Al-Hariri, had previously confirmed, “The Constitutional Committee is part of UN Resolution 2254, which states in its fourth paragraph that the process led by the Syrians is led by Syria, and the drafting of a new constitution, followed by free and fair elections, under the supervision United nations”.
