Erdogan to Putin.. Settling the situation in Syria is in everyone’s interest
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on Thursday, after the end of the 15th round of Astana talks on Syria, that achieving a settlement of the Syrian file soon is in everyone’s interest, and this came during a phone call with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.
During the call, the Turkish president stressed to his Russian counterpart that “reaching a settlement of the Syrian issue at the earliest time is in everyone’s interest.”
Erdogan’s statement on the need to reach a “close” settlement in Syria comes a day after the conclusion of the 15th round of “Astana” talks on Syria, which began on Tuesday, and its final statement was issued on Wednesday, with the participation of the delegations of the three guarantor countries (Turkey-Russia-Iran. ), and the presence of the delegations of the opposition and the Assad regime, and the UN special envoy to Syria, Geir Pedersen.
While the guarantor countries stressed “the commitment to pushing forward the political process led and owned by the Syrians and facilitated by the United Nations in accordance with Security Council Resolution (2254),” in addition to discussing agreements regarding the situation of northwestern Syria, and the file of the Constitutional Committee.
