The International Commission of Inquiry on Syria: The Assad regime has committed war crimes against civilians
The Independent International Commission of Inquiry on Syria issued a report on the Assad regime forces ’commission of war crimes and crimes against humanity against civilians in the last ten years.
The report condemned the crimes of the Assad regime forces against civilians, and indicated that the fate of tens of thousands of forcibly disappeared civilians has not been known since the start of the internal war in the country.
The report indicated that it is believed that many of the disappeared have died or been executed, while the section is being held in inhuman conditions, and that detainees have been tortured, raped or killed.
The report emphasized that the unknown fate of tens of thousands of disappeared civilians caused a “national shock” in the country.
Brazilian Committee Chairman Paulo Pinheiro said in his comment on the report: “Hundreds of thousands of families in Syria have the right to know the truth about the fate of their loved ones,” calling on the Assad regime to reveal the fate of the detainees and forcibly disappeared persons.
In its report, the IICI called for an urgent and comprehensive ceasefire throughout Syria, and called for the formation of an international mechanism to track down the missing in Syria, and to hold those responsible for violations accountable.
In April of last year, the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons accused the Assad regime forces of carrying out prohibited chemical attacks in March 2017 on the city of Al-Lataminah in the northern countryside of Hama.
