Joy Hood: Washington stands with the Syrian people and seeks justice for the victims of the Assad regime’s violations

Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, Joy Hood, announced that the United States stands with the Syrian people, and is committed to achieve justice for the victims of violations of the Assad regime.

“The United States is strongly committed to seeking justice for the victims of the atrocities committed by the Assad regime,” Hood said in a video posted on the page of the US embassy in Damascus, on the occasion of the tenth anniversary of the start of the Syrian revolution.

He added that his country will continue to work with the United Nations, like-minded countries and partners in the Syrian civil society, to pursue accountability and demand the release of thousands of Syrians who have been arbitrarily arrested.

Hood stressed that justice and respect for human rights are at the forefront of collective efforts, now more than ever, to reach a political solution in Syria.

He indicated that he had responded to the call of the “Syrian Holocaust” event, to “remind those who suffered from the brutality of the Assad regime,” pointing out that Washington will work to “honor the many brave Syrians who took to the streets a decade ago, and who today continue to speak out publicly to advance their rights.” Human rights, and they are now fighting for freedom and dignity for all Syrians, and for future generations.

An event entitled: “Ten Years of Mass Atrocities in Syria” will be launched at the “Holocaust Memorial” Museum in Washington, on the 15th of this month, with the participation of the US Senate and Representatives and Syrian activists, including a statement from “Caesar,” on the occasion of the lapse of ten years The outbreak of the Syrian revolution.
