Washington: Russia supports Bashar al-Assad with weapons, while he is a murderer
The commander of the US Central Command, General Kenneth McKenzie, said, “Russia supports Bashar al-Assad despite his committing crimes against the Syrians, and Iran is constantly trying to control the region.”
This came during a hearing before the Armed Forces Committee in the US Congress, to discuss “national security challenges and US military activities in the Middle East and North Africa.”
McKinsey added, “Russia and China seek to expand their influence at the expense of American influence,” noting that “Russia supports Bashar al-Assad with weapons and he is a murderer.”
He explained, “Russian activities in the region include establishing a permanent military presence in Syria, as it tries to regularly intervene in the international coalition campaign against ISIS in order to establish a long-term presence through its 25-year lease agreement at the Tartous Naval Base in Syria and Flamengo Bay in Sudan.”
.
The American general had previously confirmed: “Iran seeks hegemony over the region, and that may negatively affect the region, especially Syria, as worries our NATO ally, Turkey.”
The international coalition forces are deployed in northern and eastern Syria, while the Russian forces are deployed in the areas controlled by the Assad regime.
