US air strikes on Iranian militia sites in Syria
The US Department of Defense, “Pentagon,” announced, at dawn today, Monday, that it had launched air strikes against Iranian militia sites in Deir ez-Zor province, eastern Syria.
The ministry said in a statement, that the US forces carried out air strikes on facilities used by Iranian militias on the Iraqi-Syrian border.
The ministry explained that these targets were chosen because the militias of “Hezbollah” and “Sayyid al-Shuhada” use them to launch drone attacks against American personnel and facilities in Iraq.
The statement confirmed that US President Joe Biden directed more military action to disrupt and deter such attacks, adding: “The president has been clear that he will work to protect American personnel, which is evident from the strikes.”
Iraqi media sources stated that the US bombing of the (Iraqi-Syrian) border area killed 4 members of the 14th Brigade in the Popular Mobilization, and broadcast pictures of them, in addition to the material damage to the targeted sites.
Warplanes of the international coalition have previously launched air raids on the sites of the Iranian militias supporting the Assad regime forces in separate areas in the countryside of Deir Ezzor, which is repeated by the Israeli air force on Iranian sites in southern and central Syria.
