Israeli officer: Iranian militias’ movements in southern Syria will not be tolerated
The Israeli newspaper, “Jerusalem post,” quoted Israeli officer Idan Nir, commander of the “71st Armored Brigade,” that “the battalion participated in the destruction of a forward position for the Assad regime forces and other sites in the demilitarized zone in the Golan, during the month of May.”
The Israeli officer, “Nir,” stated that the Assad regime forces and members of the “Hezbollah” militia infiltrated the demilitarized zone in the Golan, with the aim of “collecting intelligence information about the movement of the Israeli army.”
Nir said that “Hezbollah and the Assad regime wanted to test us to see what we would do,” noting that “the moment our sovereignty is violated, we will work on bombing and destruction.”
He added that they “destroyed the sites with ground strikes instead of targeting them by the air force,” noting that this “was deliberate”, and thus “we sent a message that such moves will not be tolerated.” We will not allow our sovereignty to be violated.”
According to Nir, after the targeting, “Assad regime forces returned only once to the destroyed site and did not rebuild it,” adding, “If they rebuild it or build another building in another area in the Golan, we will destroy it again.”
According to a report issued by the Alma Center for Research and Education last January, the presence of the “Hezbollah” militia in southern Syria is much larger than what was previously revealed, as there are about 58 sites affiliated with the party in the provinces of Quneitra and Daraa in southern Syria.
The Israeli officer, Idan Nir, stated that Israel is working to ensure that Iran and Hezbollah do not have complete control over southern Syria, indicating that the Israeli army “does not want Hezbollah to penetrate into southern Syria so that the area does not become like southern Lebanon.”
The Israeli army had announced, in early May, the destruction of an observation post belonging to the Assad regime forces in the Golan region, and according to the video broadcast of the operation, “occupation forces stormed the regime’s observation post and blew it up.”
And “Israel Today” newspaper revealed for the first time, last April, the details of a secret operation carried out by special forces of the Israeli army inside Syrian territory, during which they destroyed a position of the Assad regime forces, adding that the Israeli army carried out a raid for the first time in years, in July 2020. , inside the buffer zone in the air
