Washington: We have imposed sanctions on figures affiliated with the Assad regime for their involvement in human rights violations
Yesterday, Tuesday, the United States of America imposed new sanctions targeting entities and individuals from three countries, including Syria, over human rights violations.
The US sanctions included officers in the Assad regime’s air force involved in carrying out chemical attacks against civilians, in addition to officers in the security and intelligence services, according to a statement by the US Secretary of State.
In this context, the US Treasury imposed sanctions on Major General “Tawfiq Khaddour” for his responsibility for launching a chemical attack on civilians in Eastern Ghouta in April 2018, in addition to Major General “Mohammed Hasouri” for his connection to carrying out air attacks, some of them chemical.
The sanctions included other officers in the Assad regime forces, including “Adeeb Salama,” the assistant director of Air Intelligence, and “Qahtan Khalil,” head of the security committee in the southern region of Syria, in addition to penalties for “Kamal Hassan,” the commander of Branch 227, who is directly responsible for the joint operations between the two countries. The Assad regime forces and the Lebanese “Hezbollah” militia, according to what the US Treasury Department announced.
For his part, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken affirmed in a statement yesterday that his country is committed to imposing sanctions on people and entities responsible for human rights violations in various countries of the world, noting that the measures followed by his country aim to punish those responsible for those violations.
