The European Union: a humanitarian senior officials meeting to curb the tragedy of Syrian people
The European Union announced in a statement that it and Finland will co-host a Humanitarian Senior Officials Meeting to discuss the humanitarian situation in Syria.
The European Commissioner said in a statement: “The humanitarian situation in Syria has become worse than ever due to the ongoing hostilities, the deteriorating of economic and fiscal situation, the severe food and water crisis, and Covid-19 epidemic.”
Many non-governmental organizations, United Nations agencies, and Red Crescent and Red Cross organizations will attend the meeting on Saturday.
The European Union Commissioner for Crisis Management Janez Lenarčič pointed out that “the 11th anniversary of the Syrian revolution has brought incredible suffering and grief for forcibly displaced people.”
Lenarčič noted that “many displaced people in Syria are in desperate need of food assistance, and he stressed that ”the European Union continues to support the Syrian people in need of aid.”
Lenarčič also stressed that ”the European Union mobilized more than €25 in humanitarian, stabilisation and resilience assistance”. The meeting today allows us to discuss how to deliver better amid the growing needs.
