Erdogan tells Putin in a phone call that the safe zone in Syria is imperative
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said yesterday evening: “establishing a 30-km-deep safe zone into Syria along the Turkish border is imperative.”
This came in a phone call between the Turkish president and his Russian counterpart, according to a statement issued by the Turkish presidency.
Erdogan added: “a terror-free zone with a depth of 30 kilometres from the Turkish border was not established, he also pointed out that the attacks by terrorist organizations are still targeting the civilians in Turkey and Syria.”
He stressed that establishing a safe zone inside Syria along the Turkish border is “imperative” in accordance with October 2019 agreement which was signed by the two presidents Erdogan and Putin in Sochi city.
The agreement aims to combat “terrorism”, return the refugees, and carry on joint patrols east and west Operation “Peace Spring” area with 10 km depth.
On May 23, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced preparations for a new military operation in northern Syria in order to expand the security zone, which was established through the “Euphrates Shield”, “Olive Branch” and “Peace Spring” operations.
