Washington: Any new Turkish offensive on Syria would undermine regional stability
US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken warned Turkey, yesterday, against launching any military operation in Syria because it would risk undermining the stability of the country.
He urged Turkey to stick to the ceasefire lines stipulated in 2019 after president Recep Tayyip Erdogan renewed threats to “clean up” two cities in northern Syria of the Syrian Democratic Forces.
Blinken said in a joint press conference with the NATO General- Secretary Jens Stolenberg: “our great concern is that any new military operation would undermine the regional stability and provide malign actors with opportunities to exploit instability, which is something we would oppose.
US Secretary of State continued: “we don’t want to see anything jeopardize the efforts we have made to keep ISIS in the box that we locked it in.”
