Russia warns of a possible nuclear conflict with the United States and its allies
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said yesterday, Tuesday, that Russia warned of a possible direct conflict “fraught with nuclear escalation” with the United States and its allies.
The warning came in a statement posted on the ministry’s official website by Zakharova in which she confirmed that “Washington and its allies, after they exacerbated the Ukrainian crisis and unleashed a hybrid fierce confrontation with Russia, are today dangerously teetering on the edge of an open military confrontation with our country which means a direct armed conflict with nuclear powers.” Zakharova expressed her concern that such a confrontation would be fraught with nuclear escalation, according to what was reported by “RT” news agency.
The deputy head of the Russian Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, has previously talked about the possibility of a nuclear war.
Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had said earlier that Russia does not manipulate the issue of nuclear war, pointing out that his country’s principled position is the impermissibility of launching a nuclear war.
It is noteworthy that Russia, the United Kingdom, China, the United States and France jointly declared in October that they were against the Nuclear Non-proliferation Treaty and will not sign it.
