UN official visits Turkey to discuss humanitarian aid delivery mechanism into Syria
The United Nations Office for Humanitarian Affairs issued a statement yesterday confirming that the Assistant Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs, Joyce Msuya, plans to visit Turkey from 25-29 July 2022, regarding humanitarian aid delivery mechanism to Syria.
The statement clarified that the Assistant Secretary-General during her visit will meet Turkish officials, the donors, UN agencies, and the international and local non-government organizations involved in humanitarian aid delivery mechanism crossing from Turkey to Syria through Bab al-Hawa border crossing.
The statement mentioned that after 11 years of conflict, more than 4 million, including 2.8 million displaced people, have been besieged mostly women and children in north-west Syria along the border with Turkey.
The statement pointed out that last year 2.4 million people received humanitarian aid each month through cross-border aid delivery mechanism.
On July 12, the Security Council adopted a resolution that extends the humanitarian aid delivery mechanism to Syria through the “Bab al-Hawa” crossing on the Turkish border for 6 months.
