Faisal al-Mikdad arrives in Moscow to discuss the Syrian file with Lavrov

The Assad regime’s foreign minister Faisal al-Mikdad arrives in Moscow today to meet his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov in order to discuss bilateral relations.

Al-Mikdad will meet his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov tomorrow to discuss ways to improve bilateral relations and files related to field developments in Syria, according to “Al-Watan” newspaper, which is close to the Assad regime.

Al-Mikdad’s visit to Moscow is the third one since he assumed the position of foreign minister two years ago; he had previously visited it at the beginning of this year.

This visit follows the recent Turkish statements and the announcement of Turkey’s foreign minister Çavuşoğlu about short conversations with al-Mikdad, calling for reconciliation between the opposition and the Assad regime.

The Russian Foreign Ministry announced last Thursday that Lavrov will hold discussions with his counterpart Mikdad in Moscow to discuss the Syrian settlement and the work of the Syrian Constitutional Committee.
