“Middle East Eye” website reveals Turkish-Russian talks about the military operation in Syria
The British Middle East Eye website revealed Turkish-Russian negotiations about the upcoming Turkish military operation against the Syrian Democratic Forces west of the Euphrates River in northeastern Syria.
The Middle East Eye website quoted a source familiar with the issue: “Turkey and Russia are negotiating a small-scale Turkish military operation against the Syrian Democratic Forces in Tal Rifaat and Manbij in Aleppo countryside in northern Syria.”
The website added that the negotiations are on the Turkish military operation to remove the Syrian Democratic Forces from the west of the Euphrates River in northeastern Syria.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced earlier this month that his country would attack all regions harboring “terrorists” inside and outside Turkey through a ground military operation in response to the Istanbul bombing.
Turkish defence minister Hulusi Akar told his Russian counterpart Sergei Shoigu in a phone call on Thursday that Ankara would continue to respond to attacks that target the security and stability of the country.
Turkey launched a military operation several days ago in northern Syria and Iraq under the name “Claw-Sword” in response to the Istanbul bombing, which caused civilians casualties.
