World Health Director calls from Idlib to mobilize International support for northwest Syria
Director of Global Health Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus called on the international community and the United Nations to support civilians affected by the earthquake in northwestern Syria.
This was the first visit of a UN official to the north of Syria after the disaster in Syria and Turkey.
According to AFP, on Wednesday, Tedros arrived in the governorate of Idlib from Turkey and visited a number of hospitals in the areas of Sarmada, Bab al-Hawa, Aqrbat and affected shelters.
At a press conference held during the tour, the United Nations official stressed that the north-western region of Syria urgently needed the international community’s assistance to recover and rebuild.
Northwest Syria was hit on 6 February by a devastating earthquake, which killed more than 5,000 Syrian civilians and more than 40,000 Turkish citizens.
