UN welcomes the resumption of aid delivery into Syria through Bab al-Hawa crossing
The United Nations welcomed the resumption of humanitarian aid delivery into northwest Syria from Turkey via Bab al-Hawa border crossing, considering it to be for along time as a vital border.
The UN Secretary-General said in a statement on Tuesday that “although the humanitarian operations have continued to help millions of vulnerable in northwest Syria, the Bab al-Hawa border has long been vital for aid delivery into northern Syria.
The statement confirmed the need to exert more efforts to ensure UN aid access to all the vulnerable in Syria, with increasing the number of people who need humanitarian aid more than ever.
The statement pointed out that UN staffs conducted three missions across the border into northwest Syria on Tuesday 19, 9, including two missions to Idleb through Bab al-Hawa.
The statement added that additional truck movements and missions for United Nations staff are expected in the coming days.
The Humanitarian Coordination Office in Idleb announced on Tuesday 19, 9, for the first time in two months, the entry of 17 UN aid trucks from Turkey through the Bab al-Hawa border crossing, after a two-month suspension, following new agreements that included a new UN mandate through which aid would be brought into the region in coordination with Office.
According to UN data, about 4,000 trucks carrying UN aid crossed this year from Turkey into northwestern Syria using the Bab al-Hawa, Bab al-Salam and al-Rai border crossings.
Resuming the use of Bab al-Hawa crossing for humanitarian aid delivery comes after an “understanding” was reached between the United Nations and the Assad regime to extend aid entry through Bab al-Hawa for six months.
