António Guterres: “Syria remains in ruins while peace remains remote”
The UN Secretary-General António Guterres said at the opening of the 78th session of the UN General Assembly that “Syria remains in ruins while peace remains remote”
The UN Secretary-General warned against the challenges that surrounded the human beings, either in terms of disasters or peace in many countries around the world, especially in the middle east.
Guterres called on the General Assembly to renew international multilateral institutions, reform the UN Security Council, and reorganize the international financial structure.
Guterres considered that the peace structure is under unprecedented pressure, and the multipolar world needs effective and strong multilateral institutions.
While the Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council, Jassim Mohammed Al-Budaiwi, said on Tuesday that “The Arab region faces the danger of nuclear and missile proliferation, and threats to marine security and freedom of navigation,” in addition to political instability and internal conflicts in Yemen, Sudan, Syria, Lebanon, Afghanistan, and Iraq.
The 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly was launched in the presence of more than 150 heads of state and government, in addition to hundreds of ministers, diplomats, representatives of non-governmental organizations and journalists, in New York City, USA.
