Arnous heads the Assad regime delegation to participate in the climate summit in the UAE
Sources loyal to the Assad regime confirmed on Monday that the Prime Minister of the Assad regime, Hussein Arnous, will head a delegation to the annual UN climate change conference “COP28”.
According to the sources, the Assad regime delegation includes the Minister of Local Administration and Environment, Hussein Makhlouf, in addition to a technical delegation of experts and specialists in the fields of environment and climate, and is scheduled to arrive in the Emirates in the middle of this week, according to the pro-government Al-Watan newspaper.
The Assad regime delegation is scheduled to participate in the “COP 28” climate conference held by the United Nations in the Emirates, between the 30th of this month and the 12th of next month.
The sources pointed out that the delegation will hold a number of meetings and sessions and will participate in events and discussions related to many climate-related topics.
UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan sent an invitation last May to Bashar al-Assad to attend the climate summit.
The World Weather Attribution Network conducted earlier a study analyzing the link between weather factors and climate change.
The study pointed out that high temperatures resulting from climate change have “increased the probability of drought occurring by 25 times in Syria and Iraq, and 16 times in Iran.”
According to the study, climate warming caused mainly by burning oil, gas, and coal has led to “severe and continuing drought” in recent years in Iraq, Syria, and Iran.
