Turkey: The Syrian refugee file is one of the most important points in the normalization process between Ankara and Assad regime

Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan announced in a press statement that the most important points which must be agreed upon in the normalization process between Turkey and Assad regime are the refugee file and counter-terrorism.

Fidan said: The talks between the two sides have been ongoing indirectly for some time. These negotiations were conducted through various intelligence and military channels.

Fidan added that we must consider the millions of Syrian refugees abroad before normalizing relations with Turkey.

Fidan pointed out that reaching a military agreement with Russia within the framework of Astana process since 2017 has led to cessation of clashes rather calmness and therefore we must take steps towards a permanent solution for some issues.

Fidan concluded that Assad regime and the Syrian Opposition have been seeking to reach a political framework they can agree on, and if solutions are achieved in the way Turkey desires, Syria will be more able to solve its other problems.”
