UK presents a draft resolution to the Human Rights Council on Syria on behalf of seven countries
UK’S Permanent Representative to the UN in Geneva, Simon Manley, said in a statement: “UK presented a draft resolution to the UN Human Rights Council of behalf of France, Germany, Netherlands, Qatar, Turkey, the United States of America, and the United Kingdom regarding the human rights situation in Syria.”
Manley added that “the draft resolution highlights violations and abuses against human rights in Syria and calls for cessation of attacks on schools and health and medical facilities.”
Manley pointed out that “the draft resolution calls on all parties to maintain unhindered, safe and sustain humanitarian aid delivery to the people in need.”
Manley noted that “the draft resolution documents the violence against the civilians, arbitrary arrests and detention in horrific conditions as torture, sexual violence and gender-based violence are common.”
Manley made it clear that “the families do not receive any information or are misinformed about the fate and whereabouts of their loved ones after arresting them.”
Manley added that “there is no end to the cruelty that the Assad regime seems is seemingly willing to inflict on those it is supposed to protect.”
Manley concluded that “the resolution admits that Syria’s future depends on the ability of the coming generations to meaningfully engage in a political solution of the conflict.”
