UN: Israel’s incursion into the Syrian territories is a violation of 1974 disengagement agreement
UN announced that the “Israeli army’s incursion inside the buffer zone in the Syria’s occupied Golan is a violation of 1974 disengagement agreement between Syria and Israel.”
United Nations spokesman Stephane Dujarric said: “The peacekeepers at (the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force) informed the Israelis that these actions constitute a violation of the disengagement agreement.”
Dujarric added: “The Israeli army who made an incursion into the buffer zone is still deployed in three sites.”
In this context, US State Department spokesman Matthew Miller confirmed that “the Israeli incursion will be temporary,” demanding adherence to the disengagement agreement.
In turn, the states of Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Qatar, and Iraq condemned Israel’s seizure of the buffer zone, stressing that “Israel is trying to sabotage Syria’s chances of restoring its security, stability, and territorial integrity.”
Israeli Army Radio quoted a senior security source as saying: “Israel destroyed the capabilities of the fleeing Assad regime army by conducting its largest air operation in history.”
This came with the announcement of the Assad regime’s fall and Bahar al-Assad’s escape to Russia, where Israeli army aviation began launching massive raids on military sites, infrastructure, and air bases in several cities and regions in Syria.
